About Juri markkula

Juri Markkula (b. 1970, Turku, Finland) is a contemporary artist based in Visby, Sweden, known for his innovative integration of technology and art. He graduated from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, where he developed a unique approach that combines digital tools, 3D printing, and traditional artistry. His works often challenge the boundaries between different art forms, resulting in sculptural paintings that incorporate natural elements like leaves and grass.

Markkula's notable projects include a vast installation for Stockholm's MTR, titled "La Divina Commedia," featuring thousands of color-changing glass mosaics that transform based on the viewer's perspective. This monumental work invites spectators to engage with their surroundings, as the colors shift and reflect light, creating a dynamic visual experience.

His RGB series further explores the interplay of digital and physical worlds, using vibrant colors from the additive RGB color system to represent nature abstractly. Markkula's art emphasizes the beauty of the environment around him, merging industrial aesthetics with organic inspiration. He believes that art serves as a reflection of reality while also providing a new perspective on materials and experiences, making his work resonate deeply with viewers.
